Bing, bam, kapow—
a citizen made into a federal piñata.
To live in America—Black, Muslim, immigrant, Somali, Republican and social activist—within the bright architecture of a republic, beneath the banner of a first-class democracy, can be to be hunted by unseen hands and suspended for the next blow.
Bing!
An embargo descends. The work is starved of air. The hands that would build are stayed.
Bam!
Censorship becomes electrical, sabotage becomes silence, and somewhere a switch is thrown without witness or explanation.
Kapow!
Psychological operations unfold in daylight; the machinery stands in plain sight; and, among those who call themselves free, there are always hands willing to press another person down.
Denied, diminished, discredited, discarded—one is marked not for what one has done, but for what one is presumed to be.
A human being, remade as target and spectacle by buerocratic machinery.
This is national-security fear at its most ornate and most ordinary.
Political prejudice, baptized as prudence; bigotry, laundered into policy; suspicion, sharpened until it passes for law.
Whose name is invoked?
In your name, with public money and public authority, such things are done—and then the world is invited to look away.
Bing, bam, kapow.
Behold “We the Feds,” and the citizen they have strung up for sport.
Still, God is good—always.
And in God we trust.
Yet one question remains: whose labor is being carried out in the name of the people?
For the state, in its fear, has begun to resemble the thing it once taught us to condemn.
May we gloriously be Free People Power: America Forever.
